Why Ceramic Liners Are Replacing Manganese Steel in Cement Vertical Mill Inlet Chutes

1. Features of Ceramic Wear Liners for Vertical Mill Inlet Chutes

Vertical roller mills are favored in the cement industry for their reliable performance, small footprint, high capacity, low energy consumption, and long service life. As a key component, the inlet chute directly affects the overall production efficiency due to its high impact load, high temperature, and severe abrasive conditions.

When using manganese steel liners, the service life is typically only around 8 months. In comparison, our high-temperature impact-resistant ceramic liners can extend the service life to over 5 years, drastically reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Typical working conditions of cement vertical mill inlet chute:

Item Outlet Air Volume Internal Ventilation Max. Inlet Temperature
Parameter 650,000–750,000 m³/h 300 m³/min 230°C

2. Advantages of High-Temperature Impact-Resistant Ceramic Liners

These liners are made by welding ultra-thick toughened alumina ceramics onto steel plates using stud welding technology, forming a strong and reliable anti-wear layer. The ceramic modules can be pre-installed on steel plates and then mounted onto equipment via welding or countersunk bolts.

(1) Excellent hardness, wear resistance, and impact resistance

Made from Al₂O₃ combined with multiple wear-resistant additives, the ceramics are dry-pressed at 100 tons. They feature high density, toughness, and exceptional wear resistance-266 times that of manganese steel and 171.5 times that of high-chrome cast iron.

(2) Smooth surface, no material sticking or blockage

The unique ceramic formula ensures high surface smoothness and extremely low water absorption, keeping the chute free from material build-up during operation.

(3) Secure installation, no detachment

Both inner and outer steel surfaces are welded, and imported industrial adhesives are used for ceramic-steel bonding. The system provides high bonding strength, excellent heat resistance, and strong resistance to acids, alkalis, and corrosion.
